Questions
AnswerWhat are the key differences between Axel Lite and Foundation ?
The Axel Lite and Foundation software programs use the same software architecture, technology, integrated user interface and both create the same native PAR file format. Both products offer collaboration functionality that enriches, expands, and simplifies your measuring processes to save time and money. But Axel Foundation provides the following additional capabilities:
How do I enter the code or the dongle?
There are times you will need to enter the code to the dongle (protection device). This normally happens when newly purchased dongle is fully activated after purchase or you will decide to extend functionality of the software - for example add pipe measurements or CAD translator. If the dongle expired or is about to expire, Axel displays a dialog box on the startup where the code can be typed in. Alternativale, once in Axel, form the Setup menu, choose Enter the new code command. The code is case sensitive.
Is Axel Lite interoperable with other Axel range products ?
Axel Lite is the foundation for an interoperable family of Axel products. Sharing the same user interface, data structure ensures that the next generation of Axel products is interoperable with Axel Lite. You may easily upgrade to Axel Foundation, Surface and Pipe functionality. The user interface stays the same and you will hardly require additional training.

The Axel software suite allows you to choose text in one of the following languages: Chinese, French, German, Polish, Swedish and Korean. Additionally, you can edit these pre-translated strings, fine tune an existing translation, or translate all of them into another language.
Should I upgrade to Axel version 5 ?
Yes. We strongly recommend doing so. Axel versions 4 and below are based on 16bit software technology. We have been developing both software lines in parallel for the past two years. However as of January 2005, Axel versions 4 and below will not be develop any longer. We will still provide technical support but you wil not be able to get any newer releases of those products. In order to keep up with out latest additions in the future we do recommend switching over to version 5. We will be running very cost effective transition scheme for existing users of Axel16 over the coming year 2005.
Which CAD formats does Axel support ?
Axel Surface comes as standard with DXF and IGES file formats. IGES should provide you with most functionality needed. However for those comapnies who has standarized on different CAD formats, we are providing access to CATIA version 4 and 5 files, STEP and ProEngineer. Other formats will be available as from January 2005.
Is it easy to upgrade an existing CMM machine with Axel ?
Yes, most manual CMM machine can be upgraded relatively easy. The new counter card will need to be installed to provide the interface between Axel and PC and XYZ machine axes and the touch probe. In case of the automatic CMM machines, you will need a motion controller such as Renishaw UCC1/2 or Deva004. Motor amplifiers and other machine connections such as limit switches, emergency stop are also done with the controller.
Is DMIS supported by Axel ?
As it stands now we have no DMIS interface. However we have been working on the interface for quite some time already. We anticipate a release of DMIS interface in the first half of 2005.
How often should I upgrade Axel software ?
Axel software comes with free 2 years upgrade contract. After initial 2 years it is really up to you. If your application is well established and repetitive you might not have any real need for frequent upgrades. However if you are using the surface measurements or off-line programming for example, the chances are that you would benefit greatly from the next software release. Axel is under constant development, we listen to our customers therefore each new release is in some way based on your feedback. If in any doubts please refer to our support pages that list all recent additions to Axel software or contact us direct. |
